Firecracker

Here are some images of Dave Porter's Schoenfeld Firecracker air racer and here in his own words is his description.

This is the Schoenfeld Firecracker air racer from the 1930’s. It was flown by the famous Lockheed test pilot Tony LeVier. Tony was an interesting guy in that he was instrumental in choosing the place to test secret high performance aircraft. The place he chose is known to the UFO crowd as Area 51. The Firecracker, like so many of racers of the day they were very small. Only about 500 lbs. They were easy to build in your garage or tool shed. Yet they were state of the art for the time.

The kit is in 1/32 scale by Williams Brothers. It is a very old kit and a particularly challenging kit to build……. Lots of filler. I finished it in a toned down Tamiya yellow with 20% white added to accomplish this. The finish was wet sanded and polished. I added a bare metal piece to simulate the polished aluminum cowl.
