Here is an image of Dave Porter's Italeri's 1/72 scale Convair B 58 Hustler and here in his own words is his description.
This is the Italeri B-58 Hustler in 1/72nd scale. It’s a decent kit but it really didn’t fit too well. The glass is of good quality and the recessed panel lines are a bonus. The decals are great. The model scales out nicely when completed. I finished the aircraft in a variety of Alclad lacquers. These are the only bare metal paints I would use to do a complete aircraft because they dry fast and they are very rugged.
The Hustler had a short service life of only 10 years. The biggest problem is that the stress on the airframe from going through mach really caused some fatigue issues. As well; they were very expensive to operate. Three squadrons of B-52’s could operate for the same cost as just one B-58 squadron. Curtis LeMay really didn’t care for the 58 because of it’s limited range. He thought the money would be better spent on more Stratofortresses.
Nice...
ReplyDeleteNot only were the B-52's much cheaper, we're still using the ones made during the civil war! LOL...
Ha! Ha! Nice one Pat.
